Up From Water

Up From Water is a project born out of friendship and rigorous debate between three third year students studying within the photography studio at the School of Fine Arts, University of Canterbury, 2001.

Very different personalities with dissimilar perspectives and experiences of spirituality and religion, Mark Gore, Uiga Bashford and Chris Hooton decided to make a collective body of work by each looking at a different Christchurch pentecostal church community. They hoped that by doing this project they would gain a better understanding of each other, as well as learn what faith, religion and spirituality meant to people within the broader communities they lived in.
